Cambridge, ON – Orthodox Easter, also called Greek Easter is the principal festival of the Orthodox Church. It is the most significant religious holiday for the world’s roughly 300 million Orthodox Christians.
It is one of the biggest and most important holidays in Ukraine. Since most churches in Ukraine and other areas of Eastern Europe continue to follow the Julian calendar (introduced by Julius Caesar in 45 BC) for religious occasions, the Ukrainian Easter celebration is held one week after the Easter celebrated by many around the world.
