Position Summary
Under the OHA umbrella, the PJHL is the world’s largest Junior Hockey League.
The Player Safety Director role was formed by the PJHL to oversee all current rules, researching and recommending updating rules when needed, and most importantly, protect all Players, Game Officials and Spectators during PJHL games.
The Player Safety Director will be selected to oversee the rules and safety of the PJHL and players based on their in-depth knowledge and experience in the hockey world.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Annual review of all playing rules to provide recommendations for improved player safety
- Review all Major and Match Penalties within the PJHL games
- Review the PJHL Video Review Process and recommend changes if necessary
- Lead all PJHL Video Review Requests
- Lead all PJHL Discipline Hearings
- Lead and make decisions on all on-ice supplementary discipline
- Develop a program for player and team education for player safety and rules emphasis
- Host annual meetings with each Division prior to the start of the season
- Communication with all teams and officials regarding standard play
Essential Skills
- Well organized, able to handle several tasks at the same time
- Extremely strong attention to detail and willingness to complete assignments/projects using very high standards
- Flexible working hours – evenings and weekends, when required
- Able to establish priorities, meet deadlines and work under pressure
Qualifications and Experience
- 5+ years officiating experience within junior or higher level of hockey in Canada
- Previous work experience in a team and league environment
- Strong hockey knowledge and understanding of the PJHL and OHA teams and structure
