OHA COACHES CLUB – COACH DEVELOPMENT WEBINARS

Based on the Success of the November event, a December Installment has been added. The clinics are available to all OHA coaches at no cost –  earn coach certification maintenance points 

The OHA Coaches Club is a growing hub of coach development related information that will be accessible on the OHA website. Currently, a webinar speaker series for OHA coaches is being offered.  The webinars are meant to provide coaches with information, ideas and takeaways, that can be applied to their own coaching situation.

These webinars are available to all OHA coaches at no cost.

Following the conclusion of the webinar series, OHA coaches who have registered and attended all sessions, will be eligible for certification maintenance points.

Connor Cadaret “Structured Offensive Zone Play”

An experienced junior coach, Cadoret was named Associate Coach of the Collingwood Blues prior to this season, following a year in the AJHL with Bonneyville Pontiacs, as assistant coach.  Cadoret spent the 21-22 season with the OJHL’s Cobourg Cougars as Associate Coach and Director of player development. Prior to joining the Cougars, he fulfilled assistant coach duties with Stouffville Spirit while providing player development leadership with Whitechurch-Stouffville Minor Hockey Association coaches.

David Urquhart“In-season Skills Assessment & Player Development”

A Thorold, Ontario native, Urquhart played junior hockey in the GOJHL for his hometown Thorold Blackhawks and the Welland Cougars before moving on to a stellar collegiate career at McGill University and a professional career in the American Hockey League (Hartford & Hamilton), ECHL (Charlotte & Wheeling) and Italy.

Following his playing career, Urquhart moved into coaching at the USports level with McGill, while earning a master’s degree in sport psychology.  He then spent 3 seasons (2018-21) as an assistant coach with the American Hockey League’s San Diego Gulls.   He was named head coach at McGill in 2021.

David Matsos- “Preparation is Paramount.” 

Currently the head coach of the St. Thomas Stars, David has an extensive coaching history including 11 years in the Ontario Hockey League, where he spent 4 seasons as the Head Coach of the Sudbury Wolves and Hamilton Bulldogs as well as 7 seasons as an Assistant/Associate Coach between Windsor and Hamilton. David has spent the two most recent seasons with the London Nationals in the GOJHL. He spent 5 years coaching professionally in Europe and has also represented Canada as an Assistant Coach in both the u17 tournament and the Canada-Russia series.
David was the Head Coach for the winning GOJHL u18 team at the prestigious 2023 MacPherson tournament.

Wes Wolfe– “Personnel Development for Special Teams”

Currently an Associate Coach with the Erie Otters of the OHL, Wes’s strong relationship with the OHA stems from time with the Niagara River Hawks, head coach and assistant GM with the St. Catharines Falcons, and as general manager and head coach of the Cobourg Cougars.  Wes has developed into a premiere development coach emphasizing and combining a positive learning culture, supportive analytics and a player management approach that is player centred.
