OHA STRENGTHENS OFFICIATING PROGRAM

On the heels of several positive changes with their Officiating Program; the OHA is pleased to announce the following appointments

New OHA Appointees Kevin Pollock (L) and Chris Ferreira (R)

CAMBRIDGE, Ont. –

OHA DIRECTOR OF OFFICIATING:

The Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) announced today the appointment of Kevin Pollock as Director of Officiating

Pollock comes to the OHA with over three decades of officiating experience. Most notably, he was an on-ice official from 1999-2024 with the National Hockey League (NHL). Over the course of that time period, Pollock established himself as one of the best officials in the world. In addition to working over 1600 regular season and 219 playoff games at the NHL level, he has also officiating in multiple Stanley Cup finals as well as the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

A keeper of the game on and off the ice, Pollock is excellent at mentoring young officials, enhancing teamwork, and cooperation. His history with the OHA is extensive.

His father Clarke was an OHA Referee from the 1970’s through the mid 1980’s. He was a level 6 official that worked Allan Cup, Centennial Cup, and Sutherland Cup Championships.

OHA OFFICIATING ASSIGNER

The Ontario Hockey Association announced also today that Chris Ferreira has been appointed to the role of OHA Officiating Assigner. Ferreira has been a part of the OHA officiating program as an Officiating manager and has long been regarded as one of the best officials in the OHA but also a great teacher and team player. He will be responsible for the assigning of OHA Officials to games across all five (5) OHA member-leagues.

The native of Kingsville, ON, Ferreira is a level 6 official with over 14 years of on-ice experience. He has been a big part of the positive changes in recent years with the OHA officiating program, including taking the lead with a recent officiating recruitment initiative.

The OHA is extremely grateful to have these two gentlemen enhance the OHA Officiating program and lead the great officials we have in the program

Both Kevin and Chris start immediately as the OHA gears up for the upcoming 2024-2025 hockey season.

About the Ontario Hockey Association

The Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) was founded on November 27, 1890, and is the governing body for the majority of Junior and Senior hockey in the Province of Ontario.  The OHA is a Member Partner of the Ontario Hockey Federation which is one of thirteen Provincial and Regional Branches of Hockey Canada. 

It is comprised of three Junior hockey leagues and two Senior hockey leagues: Junior A – Ontario Junior Hockey LeagueJunior B – Greater Ontario Junior Hockey LeagueJunior C – Provincial Junior Hockey LeagueSenior  –Allan Cup Hockey (AAA) and Ontario Elite Hockey League (AA). For the 2023-24 season, these five leagues encompass 125 teams.

The objectives of the OHA are to foster and encourage the sport of amateur hockey, to conduct competition in the various categories established, to determine teams for entry into the inter-branch competitions that may be provided by Hockey Canada, and to provide for the affiliation of other hockey organizations.

The OHA provides administrative resources, coordinates programs, services and events for hockey participants and provides support to various Development Programs for coaches, officials, trainers and players, Safety and Risk Management Issues and offers resources for Harassment and Abuse education.
