Ontario Hockey Association Mourns the Loss of Joe Gowers

The former London Nationals and St. Marys Lincolns trainer passed away as a result of a motorcycle accident

Cambridge, ON – Police said the motorcyclist was taken to hospital in life threatening condition, where he died of his injuries the next day. The driver of the other vehicle stayed on scene and London police’s traffic management unit is continuing to investigate the fatal collision.

Gowers, a dedicated father and a former team trainer for the London Nationals and the St. Marys Lincolns, is being remembered for his passion for hockey and his positive impact on everyone he worked with.

“He was a really friendly guy. He’d do anything to help the players that were under his leadership. He was an ultra-competitor. He loved the game of hockey,” said Pat Powers, general manager of the St. Marys Lincolns and former general manager and coach of the Nationals.

“He put in lots of long hours to do what was needed. He was a guy you could always rely on.”

Powers first met Gowers when he was working for the Nationals in 2014. Gowers’ last season with the Lincolns was in 2022-23, Powers said, when night shift work at CAMI Automotive in Ingersoll prevented him from working with the team in 2023-24.

Gowers was also a member of the Bikers Against Child Abuse’s Railway City chapter where he was known as “Poet”, according to a post from The Legacy Chapter, a non-profit supporting bereaved families of motorcyclists.

Police are asking anyone with dash-cam footage, video surveillance, to come forward with any information that can assist with the investigation.
