Wentworth Gryphins set to host 2025 Allan Cup Challenge

Cambridge, ON – the 117th edition of Canada’s Oldest Hockey Competition will be hosted by the Wentworth Gryphins. The Gryphins are a member of the Allan Cup Hockey (ACH) League and Ontario Hockey Association (OHA). This Cup has been competed for since 1908 and is Canada’s oldest hockey championship.

The Ontario Hockey Association will host the event again this year.

“We are very excited again this year to see the 2025 Allan Cup Challenge being hosted by one of our Allan Cup Hockey League teams the Wentworth Gryphins,” said ACHL / OEHL Commissioner Rick Richardson. “Past Allan Cups have always produced some great hockey and even some great finishes! I’m sure this years 2025 Allan Cup will have many memories.”

The 2025 Allan Cup Challenge will see a 6 team tournament this year with all games being played at the Harry Howell Arena in West Flamborough.

The 2025 Alan Cup Challenge will start Sunday April 20th with the Championship game on Saturday April 26th,2025.

Rod Black, one of the finest broadcasters in Canadian History, had so much fun at last year’s event, he had to come back for another year! “Absolutely pumped to once again be part of the national broadcast team for the Allan Cup  – one of the oldest trophies and championships in North American sport,” said Rod Black. “I had an awesome time last year in Dundas and looking forward to the same this year in Waterdown. If you’ve never watched senior hockey before – you’ve missed a lot. Great players, great teams, great competition and most of all great stories of players who have played at so many different levels and now keep turning back time. I’m expecting another epic week and get ready Waterdown, we might be taking the Cup for a tour of your fun friendly town.

For the first time, the Ontario Elite Hockey League (OEHL) champion will be joined at the Allan Cup Challenge by host Wentworth. Also competing are defending champion Dundas Real McCoys, Stoney Creek Tigers, and two teams from Newfoundland & Labrador, the St. John’s Rooftech Capitals and Clarenville Ford Caribous.

Minto currently leads Ripley 2-0 in the OEHL ‘AA’ final.

About the Ontario Hockey Association

The Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) was founded on November 27, 1890, and is the governing body for the majority of Junior and Senior hockey in the Province of Ontario.  The OHA is a Member Partner of the Ontario Hockey Federation which is one of thirteen Provincial and Regional Branches of Hockey Canada

It is comprised of three Junior hockey leagues and two Senior hockey leagues: Junior A – Ontario Junior Hockey League; Junior B – Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League; Junior C – Provincial Junior Hockey League, Senior  – Allan Cup Hockey (AAA) and Ontario Elite Hockey League (AA). For the 2024-25 season, these five leagues encompass 125 teams.

The objectives of the OHA are to foster and encourage the sport of amateur hockey, to conduct competition in the various categories established, to determine teams for entry into the inter-branch competitions that may be provided by Hockey Canada, and to provide for the affiliation of other hockey organizations.

The OHA provides administrative resources, coordinates programs, services and events for hockey participants and provides support to various Development Programs for coaches, officials, trainers and players, Safety and Risk Management Issues and offers resources for Harassment and Abuse education.
